Artist Bio:
Wisconsin artist Alanna Thays has gained statewide recognition for her precise recreation of wildlife in her paintings and drawings. Selected as the overwhelming favorite by Wisconsin voters, Alanna's depiction of a wolf against a full moon became the design of Wisconsin's first endangered species license plate. In addition, this self-taught artist's painting "Winter Evening Cardinals" won the "1994 Artist of The Year Award" from the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation and became her first print. Alanna has also had limited edition prints published by "Whitetails Unlimited", including "After the Season", which was the Whitetails Unlimited 2003 sponsor print.
Alanna's paintings, drawings, and prints are available for viewing and sale at Maple Marsh Wildlife Prints and Gifts. Her home studio, located in Marquette County, Wisconsin, overlooks 40 acres of forest, wetlands and a spring fed pond The abundance of wildlife which frequents the area provides much inspiration for her painting. In addition, she enjoys traveling the state taking photos and incorporating the images into her paintings.
Alanna and her husband Jim have two adult sons. Alanna appreciates the encouragement and constructive criticism of her husband , also an artist and carver. While she began painting full-time in 1987, she started back in 1973, specializing in pet portraits which she is still regularly commissioned to paint
